ROBOTIS announced on the 28th that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with Lotte Global Logistics for the 'logistics delivery service robot business'.
This collaboration is all the more meaningful as it comes at a time when the Road Traffic Act amendment, which defines outdoor mobile robots as pedestrians and allows them to walk on sidewalks, has been passed.
This business agreement includes the following:
- development and operation of a logistics delivery robot system
- support for verification and commercialization of application of logistics delivery robots in various indoor and outdoor environments
- creation and application of business models utilizing logistics delivery robots
- mutual cooperation in discovering demand sources and verifying effectiveness required for operation of logistics delivery robots.
Through this agreement, the two companies plan to develop, verify, and commercialize logistics service robots that can be operated in various logistics environments, such as:
- office building parcel delivery
- short-distance fast delivery to marts/supermarkets/MFC (small downtown logistics centers)
- complete robot delivery through indoor-outdoor linkage.
Kim Byeong-su, CEO of ROBOTIS, said, “The need for logistics delivery robots is gradually increasing due to reasons such as shortened working hours and rising labor costs in the labor-intensive logistics industry,” and added, “We hope that this agreement will contribute not only to the development of both companies, but also to the autonomous driving robot industry.”
