ROBOTIS Co., Ltd. announced on the 1st that it is launching the high-performance robot actuator 'DYNAMIXEL-Y'.

The DYNAMIXEL-Y, which is being released this time, is a next-generation actuator series that embodies ROBOTIS' technological prowess. It is a core component essential for the construction and operation of various cutting-edge industries, automation systems, and processes, as it is centered around a high-performance frameless motor, supports electronic brake functions, enables high RPM, and enables precise position control.

Actuator is a general term for mechanisms and devices that control movement for a specific purpose in various engineering fields such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and electronic engineering. As technology has developed, the concept has expanded to include devices that provide physical movement to objects based on commands sent from a system or computer by incorporating software modules.

With the development of the 4th industrial revolution and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, various robots such as collaborative robots and multi-joint robots are being distributed to various industrial sites, and automated processes are being established rapidly. The robots used in these automated processes need to be able to perform increasingly sophisticated commands with precision and without error, so the industry's need for high-performance actuators is expected to steadily increase.

ROBOTIS plans to actively attract customers based on the newly released DYNAMIXEL-Y.

DYNAMIXEL-Y is largely composed of a motor that drives and a reducer that controls the output of the motor. Its exterior is also made of a hollow shaft with a hole in the center, providing convenience for use in various systems. In addition, customer-specific customization is possible, so users can selectively purchase products according to their needs.

A frameless motor was also adopted. This motor is a type of motor that is widely used when high torque density (Nm/kg) is required in a narrow space and relatively small size, and is mainly used in the aerospace and robotics fields. It supports a direct drive method with excellent acceleration capability, so high performance can be expected even in a compact design. In addition, it is designed with a multi-turn absolute encoder, so precise and fast motor control is possible based on position information.

The electronic brake and cycloidal reducer 'DYNAMIXEL Drive (DYD)' are also built-in to help smooth control of the actuator. DYD is a reducer developed by ROBOTIS, and is a popular product used all over the world based on its high precision and strong impact resistance. It is used in various industrial sites including multi-joint robots. The electronic brake can be used for safety to prevent the system from operating arbitrarily after power is turned off.
