ROBOTIS has become the first company in Korea to receive safety certification for outdoor mobile robots. Through this, it has secured a foundation for leading the service robot market, including delivery and patrol. Based on this, ROBOTIS plans to secure leadership in the domestic market based on domestic technology as well as accelerate its advance into the global market.
ROBOTIS announced on January 31 that it has become the first company in Korea to receive safety certification for outdoor mobile robots. Safety certification for outdoor mobile robots is a legally required certification according to the Act on Promotion of Development and Distribution of Intelligent Robots for outdoor mobile robots to use sidewalks. It can be obtained only after passing a rigorous examination of 16 new certification criteria established by the Korea Robot Industry Advancement Institute.
Following its selection as the first special exception to the Road Traffic Act regulation in 2019 for the first time in the robot industry, it has now won the title of first in Korea with this operational safety certification. A ROBOTIS official explained, "This is a part where the data and technological prowess that we have steadily built up over a long period of time as a leading company in the robot industry are clearly demonstrated."
ROBOTIS recently reported that many of the obstacles to the commercialization and business expansion of autonomous robots, such as removal of regulations due to the revision of the Intelligent Robot Act and acquisition of operational safety certification, have been significantly resolved.
In the industrial ecosystem that is recently changing to be more robot-friendly, ROBOTIS plans to take the lead in the commercialization and market expansion of autonomous robots based on its own technological prowess. The industry expects tangible results to be seen within the year with franchise industries, organizations, and various companies that are currently in discussions on the introduction of ROBOTIS' autonomous service robot, 'GAEMI'. In addition, with the introduction of this operational safety certification system as a starting point, the autonomous driving robot and service robot market is expected to expand, and the commercialization of robot introduction is expected to accelerate further. ROBOTISCEO Kim Byeong-su said, "ROBOTIS' autonomous driving service robot 'GAEMI' is a domestic robot that was created based on domestic technology in both software and hardware." He added, "Through this certification, we will secure the initiative of domestic companies in the domestic autonomous driving robot market, while also accelerating our advance into global markets such as the U.S. and Japan."
